Home Construction Post the Financial Crisis – Smaller is Better

http://money.cnn.com/2010/04/16/news/economy/Florida_home_building/index.htm

Interesting CNN Article discussing the revival of home construction around the nation and specifically  Florida.

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that homes in the U.S. are in for a significant change.  This article underscores the new reality – smaller and fewer frills is better.  I expect this will have a long term dampening effect on the very large homes that were so much a part of the norm during the past several years.

Rebalancing our balance sheets means reducing costs on a broad basis and that means smaller footprints for homes, less expensive materials, lower operating costs, and so on.  For would be rental home owners, this concept should significantly effect choice of property.  Offer density and reduced cost and you can win larger margins.
